Rules of Götterdämmerung Guild

Language in guild, party and officer chat must be courteous and respectful. It must always be PG because we all have to remember that we have very young players (who, in passing, also happen to be very good). There should be no sexist, racist or homophobic remarks, or any remarks that show bigotry of any kind. Do not irritate or harrass guild-mates When you are asked to stop acting a certain way or saying certain things Stop! In most cases you will be warned directly or by mail about these infractions and only after you ignore this warning will expulsion follow. A mark goes into your officer's note (a record of your life within the guild each of you has and which can be read and updated only by the Elder, Chamberlain, Sages and members of the Council of Nine). (In passing, this is where we also keep track of your kindnesses to the guild so it's not just a bad thing.)

Things that are frowned upon...

- begging in guild chat. If you need money, please contact The Elder; he has a fund for special situations. Your guild-mates are indeed here to help you but not to fill your pockets.

- asking for money from guild-mates in exchange for help with their quests etc. If you do not wish to help a guild-mate with a quest, you never have to.

- using guild-chat to try to sell items. This will now be forbidden. Selling is what auction houses, trade channels and merchants are for. Anyone who tries to sell items on guild chat will no longer receive free items or money all of which have been donated by your guild-mates to the guild via Danke or Fledermaus. You may, however, trade any item you wish. Indeed, this is encouraged.

- ask for help, but don't always expect it. As you may have noticed, many of your guild-mates are very generous with their time, money, loot and advice. However, if you are having trouble with a quest, do not expect guild-mates to drop everything and come and help. Most often, a guild-mate will offer assistance with a quest at a later time, convenient to both of you. Remember: all of your guild-mates are trying to level up too!

Some Guild benefits and responsibilities (Gifts, promotions, invites, etc.)

One of the benefits of Götterdämmerung Guild is that the richer and more experienced members are there to help and encourage their guild-mates. If, for instance, you have just joined the guild and cannot afford the guild tabard, please contact the Elder (Milktöstmeek) and he will try and arrange the purchase from a fund created by the Sages and Councillors.

However, whatever your level, you can help your guild-mates. If you have looted an item you cannot use (because it's not your level or because you have something better already), and you don't absolutely need the cash from selling it then gift it to another player by mailing it to them. Check that the level is appropriate first (using the Guild list) and then send it to them. Encourage your recipient to equip themselves with the item, or if they can't, to sell it to improve the equipment they have.

Also, always check your guild list before questing. You may find help from Guild-mates nearby or might even be able to share the quest.

As to invites to the Guild: any member may recommend an invite but only Sages, Council of Nine Members, the elder or chamberlain may actually invite new members. It is always preferable that one of these officers has quested with the proposed member first.

The right of promotion, demotion and expulsion remains with the Elder and Chamberlain who take wise council from all members.

Finally, share your knowledge. If you find something interesting about WoW, let us all know or message the Elder and he'll get it into a blog.

On Language

Guild Chat is a touchy business and to many of you the rules Götterdämmerung applies to it may seem arbitrary but there are several reasons they exist: first, to protect our guild and its members from action by Blizzard; second, to protect our young members (some as young as ten); third to make the experience of playing WoW as pleasant as possible.

For these reasons, swearing, racial epithets and homophobic language are not permitted in guild chat. For instance, using the term "gay" to describe something bad or lame will reward you with a discussion with an officer - Elder, Chamberlain, Sage, Councillor - and, should you do it again, expulsion from the guild. And here's a weird aspect of this rule that many of you may not like - in general chat, be cautious about the text abbreviations you use as well as, invariably, some young player will ask what they stand for. (Or even some older player, like me, who just found out what "lm*o" means.)

When you are using whisper chat, other rules apply, obviously, governed by how well you know the person you're chatting with. However, if that person complains to an officer, you will get a chat from him/her. The officer will listen to what you have to say, but don't get hostile with the officer as this may result in expulsion.

This being said, Götterdämmerung tries not to be the thought police. If the kiddies are in bed, it's 3 in the morning, and your char is getting attacked by 10 level-60s, you will not be torn to shreds if something "unusual" is said. Apologize and get on with your life. Even 10-year-olds know that adults swear from time to time.

One more thing: WoW is a game in which everyone plays a role. It is assumed you are not a gnome, dwarf, warrior or mage in real life, right? So don't assume the person you're playing with is ACTUALLY a man or a woman. The same way you pretend to be a warlock, many, many, many other players in WoW pretend to be the opposite sex. (It is generally accepted as fact that there are not nearly as many women who actually play WoW as there are female characters in the actual game.) This is not weird, this is not creepy, this just another fascinating way of approaching this world of make-believe we love so much. Try and see how interesting it makes the game.

A message from Milktostmeek

Hello Dearest Friends

Although I have been sick and am still recovering, this does not mean I do not miss you all enormously and have not been thinking of you and our guild.

I'd like to share a thought with you all. I was listening to some WoW podcasts about guilds and came across an idea that I think applies beautifully to our guild: Friendship first. I think it is absolutely crucial to your enjoyment of the game, and to whether or not you stick with WoW, that you create and nurture the friendships you create not only in the guild, but also outside of it (when you keep running into the same people for pickup groups).

I have worked hard to make sure that there are several players at virtually every level of the game so that if you need to group for an instance or quest, you will always have someone in Götterdämmerung to give you a hand. This way, you get to know each other more deeply and the game becomes something more: a rich life experience, even.

Because a guild is not just a bunch of people playing a game - I have learned this especially while I was sick and some of you contacted me directly via our web site. For a guild to work, you have to have good friendships - people who will take a moment from levelling up, or finishing a quest to answer your questions, share a joke or tell you something interesting they have seen as they play the game. But more than that, a guild is a social group where people share bits of their lives (as much as they want to share). Whether it's in general guild chat, or in whisper, we find a place where we can talk, laugh, goof on each other or solve problems.

Friendship first.

I cannot repeat that idea too often. While you work hard for that piece of loot, to finish that instance or to level higher, remember that behind each Milk, Meat, Mouse, Jhae, Ig, Jess, Alli or Yog, there is a real person who is glad to be with you in this game and wants to be a friend.

Make it easy for each other, dearest friends - remember that anything you are doing (including levelling up to that precious mount or epic mount) can wait a few minutes, a day or even a week while you tell others about this great podcast you just heard, or how good this book you just finished was.

Again, I miss you all profoundly and never realized just how profoundly until I was away from you.

Welcome to Our New Guild Site!

This post is intended to assist our guild members on how to gain access to our website.

How to Add Users to Your Guild
There are two ways a user can join your guild.

1. Using a Launch Code
2. The application process

Regardless of which process they use every member must create a Guild Launch account and submit the application.
The Launch Code just allows the user to be added to the guild and bypass the 'acceptance' step in the application process.

Existing Members
The best way to get existing members into your guild is to use a Launch Code.
A Launch Code is a password that allows an applicant to skip the application process
and automatically join the guild. If the user does not use a launch code their application
will have to be approved by a guild admin.

New Members
New members can use a launch code, if you give it to them, or they can go through the application
process. If they go through the application process then their membership will have to be approved
by a guild admin.

The full process to get someone into the guild through the application process is:
1. Go to your guildsite URL. That is the URL in the browser window starting with "http://".
2. Click the "Apply to Guild" link on the left side.
2a. If the user already has an account they will see the application form.
2b. If the user does not have an account they will be able to create an account and then your guild's application will be displayed to them.
3. The user then submits the application.
4. The application will appear on the guild's Approve Applications area of the MEMBERS tab in the Guild Admin area.
5. The guild admin must approve the application.
5a. (Optional) If the member is an officer or you have created other security groups then add them to the
Officer group when you accept them so they can see the officer forum.
6. The user is now a member of your guild!
